Living Overseas Can Be Tough.

I should know. I’ve been doing it for 20 years.

I’m Jon, and I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina – and yes, I chose this on purpose.

Nearly 20 years ago, I packed up my life in the UK to go travelling.

First stop, Argentina.

Turns out it was the last stop too.

Making a life.

I met my wife, settled down, and became a freelance writer.

Since then, I’ve been constantly figuring things out and learning how to earn money from the other side of the world.

I’ve experimented with everything, discovered the hard way how to earn dollars from Argentina, and made all the mistakes you can make along the way.

Figuring things out.

I launched Making It Overseas to help people in a similar situation. Either planning to move abroad or already living the expat life, and not quite sure about how to make it work.

This is my honest (sometimes brutally so) resource on what it’s actually like to live in a different country and build a life overseas.

Recently, things have changed a lot. We’re in the AI age, and freelance work is not the same as it was.

It’s been tough adapting, but part of this is about finding new ideas and developing new income streams that work today.

As someone who’s tried out a lot of different things (and will keep on trying), I’ll be documenting what’s working and what’s not for anyone trying to build a life overseas.

This isn’t about selling a dream life overseas, quitting your job and travelling the world. It’s the practical, honest and sometimes messy reality.

Every week I write about the things nobody tells you about living and earning abroad.

Banking headaches, freelancing across time zones, tax confusion, and the little victories that make it all worthwhile.
